Pangnirtung was the true beginning of the
journey. Having cleared permits and safety procedures with the
Ranger
Station we set off North up the frozen Pangnirtung Fjord towards the
Auyuittuq National Park, which we reached after a day and half.
Along the way we saw some quite amazing ice formations created at the
fjord's edge as the ice expanded when the sea water froze.
The skies
were blue, the air totally still and the temperature about -25°C
- absolutely stunning. The only challenge was finding snow we could
melt for water - there was plenty of it but because we were camping on the
fjord, it melted into sea water. Yummy! No need to salt the
pasta then.

Along the way, we met a couple of German guys.
They'd been out
on the ice for two weeks - they had frosty beards and so MUST have been
proper explorers J Anyway,
they got bored and so built and igloo! Great to be able to do things
like that just for fun, don't you think?
